Direct answer

A multi-branch POS should show which outlet sold an item, where stock is held and who changed a record. Test the timing of synchronisation before trusting a chain-wide total during a connection problem.

Use one product identity

Agree how the same item is named, priced and taxed across outlets. Branch-specific prices can be legitimate, but they should not create duplicate product records that make group reporting unreliable.

Walk a transfer through

Move stock from one outlet to another, receive it and check both balances. Ask what happens if the receiving outlet is offline. A transfer that disappears in transit is a common source of disagreement between managers.

Keep local responsibility

Head office may need consolidated reports while branch managers need only their own figures. Test roles and shift close at each location. For VAT-registered outlets, confirm whether the fiscal setup and merchant identifiers differ by branch.

What to check before you decide

  • Test inter-branch transfers.
  • Check data visibility after an outage.
  • Review permissions and tax setup per outlet.

Questions people ask

Are live group totals always available?

No. They depend on synchronisation and network availability.
