Direct answer
GRA E-VAT is the electronic system used to issue VAT receipts in Ghana. It is for VAT-registered businesses; it is not a separate tax. GRA offers both a standalone invoicing option and a route that integrates with an existing invoicing system.

What changes at the till
The cashier still records the sale. The difference is how the VAT receipt is generated and authenticated. GRA lists a QR code, signature, time stamp and receipt identifiers among the security features of an E-VAT receipt. A printed ticket without the required fiscal details should not be treated as a verified E-VAT receipt.
Where a POS fits
A POS records products, payments and stock movement. If the business keeps that POS, the invoicing path has to carry the right transaction data into the GRA-approved process and return a clear result to the cashier. Ask the implementer to show a completed sale, a rejected sale and a corrected sale, not just a demonstration of the receipt layout.
What EazSell can discuss
EazSell can help plan Android checkout, invoice data checks and the integration workflow with a Ghanaian implementation partner. Certification, taxpayer onboarding and production connection must be confirmed for the actual merchant setup. We do not describe EazSell as GRA-certified.
What to check before you decide
- Confirm the business's VAT registration and GRA onboarding route.
- Ask who supplies the fiscal system and who supports it after installation.
- Test the full sale-to-receipt flow on the devices used in the shop.
Questions people ask
Is E-VAT a new tax?
No. GRA describes E-VAT as a better way to issue VAT receipts, not a new tax.
Can a business keep its invoicing software?
GRA describes an option that integrates with an existing invoicing system. The exact route needs to be agreed during onboarding.
